NAVFAC P-307 Training Practice Test

Distorted rigging hardware is a significant safety concern and can compromise the integrity of lifting operations. The correct action to take with such hardware is to remove it from service and destroy it. This ensures that the faulty equipment cannot be inadvertently reused, which would pose serious risks to safety and operational effectiveness.

When rigging hardware is distorted, it has usually undergone stress that has altered its structure, making it unfit for safe use. Continuing to use damaged hardware could lead to failure during lifting operations, which can result in accidents, injuries, or even fatalities. Therefore, the protocol mandates that rather than attempting repairs or inspections, damaged hardware needs to be permanently taken out of service to protect users and maintain safety standards.

Other actions, such as repairs or storage for future use, could lead to continued risks since distortion often signifies that the inherent strength and reliability of the hardware have been compromised.
